1 Business Communication

Exercise 1

1.      How do you define communication?

Communication is any exchange of message, that idea that some other person may receive, allowing this person to interpretate it and decode the message that it is intended to give.

2.      What is the role of communication in management of business?

Its role is of vital importance since it aims to effect change within the organization, it seeks to influence the organization, groups, and people by facilitating tasks and actions in it.

3.      What are the different purposes of communication? Briefly explain any five of them.

·         For instruction: It allows the communicator to give the guidelines, objectives, and desired tasks to the person in charge, thus allowing and facilitating that he or she can perform them.

·         For information: In an organization this allows you to inform the lower levels of the tasks, policies, goals, objectives, etc. of the organization and thus the lower levels are aware of all this.

·         For teaching: It allows you to guide and teach workers about safety measures and their different work areas, avoiding any type of insiders, accidents, or errors.

·         For influencing: To influence others, it is necessary to correctly follow the guidelines of good communication, so you can convince or persuade people to carry out different activities within the organization or to make certain decisions.

·         For evaluation: With adequate communication, the effectiveness, and the way in which an individual carries out their activities and their level of contribution in the company can be evaluated.

4.      Discuss the different situations when the communication exists.

I think communication goes beyond those 4 components. There may be communication without necessarily wanting to give certain information to a person and sometimes this person does not want to receive any type of message, much less decode it, sometimes not receiving the message can also work as a form of communication and many times not there are responses to the messages we receive.

5.      “Communication is an exchange of facts, ideas, opinions and emotions by two or more persons.” Explain the statement and discuss the role of feedback in communication.

The idea refers to what I commented in my previous answer, many times it is not only wanting to give a message on many occasions you do not want to give that message and even so we communicate, but communication also goes further, it can be something emotional even mental, the communication lies in an exchange of situations.

Feedback is a key factor in communication if it is necessary, requested, or both.

6.      “Communication is the two-way process.” Explain

It means that it comes in both directions, communicating assertively does not mean that you only send your idea, message, emotion, feeling, thought, etc. if not that there is response from this.

7.      Discuss the elements of communication process.

I think that the elements of communication are simplified, since we are talking about a person who needs to send a message, he sends it, the other person plans to receive the message and not only that, he is also supposed to decode it, for the above the message It should have been sent correctly and although the message is sent correctly it is not always understood or decoded in the correct way.

8.      Give three examples of brain drain in communication process.

·         When a person gives feedback, he or she can take it as negative criticism of some activity that he or she carried out or some idea that he expressed.

·         When an idea is transmitted in the wrong way, its real message can feel confusing and produce an unexpected response from the receiver.

·         When the receiver does not receive the idea transmitted and gives wrong feedback.

DON'T FORGET TO GIVE ME YOUR COMMENTS AND SHARE WITH COMPANIONS SO WE CAN CONTINUE COMMUNICATING.

  1. The reasoning behind the statement you made about how sometimes not getting a response also counts as a form of communication is a very fine point that I most definitely agree with, I think it's a powerful statement that goes to show that communication is not necessarily always about talking.

  3. I agree with you, it is not enough to send a message, for it to fulfill its purpose there must be a response from the receiver.

  4. I liked the way you defined the importance of communication in business, particularly where you said it is a form to influence in people. If you know how to communicate and you are willing to complete the communication process, you will receive feedback, which will make you to get better and improve. Also, if you give this feedback to the workers in lower levels or to your superiors and know how to get to them to understand what you’re trying to say or accomplish, it means that you are capable to influence other by communicating to them your opinion and ideas.
